How to Prepare for Camp
To ensure a positive and enjoyable camp experience for all, families should review the camp's rules and expectations with their child. Some basic rules include:
- Listen to counsellors.
- Respect other campers and staff.
- Following instructions.
- Demonstrate appropriate behavior.
- Ask for permission to use water fountains or washrooms.
All Parents/Guardians picking up campers must have government-issued photo identification with them and be listed on file as a Parent/Guardian or other Authorized Pick-Up Person with permission to sign-out the camper. Government issued identification is required to be show every time you pick up your camper.
- Swim/water play packing list
For camps that offer swimming and/or water play:
- Campers must bring a towel and bathing suit.
- Campers must bring appropriate shoes for the pool deck and/or outdoor water play.
- All items must be kept in a labelled reusable bag.
- Badminton packing list
Campers are encouraged to bring their own badminton racquet from home.
- Ball Hockey packing list
Campers must come with the following mandatory equipment in order to participate in ball hockey activities:
- CSA approved hockey helmet with cage/face mask.
- Hockey gloves.
- Hockey stick.
- Running shoes.
- Baseball packing list
Campers are encouraged to bring their own baseball glove from home.
- Cooking camp packing list
For camps offering a cooking activity, please bring:
- A set of cutlery,
- A container to send home any food not consumed at camp, and
- An apron.
Please also ensure long hair is tied up for the camp day.
Notify staff of any dietary restrictions or allergies. This information helps to inform our recipe selection. We do out best to accommodate those submitted in advance. Please email the Camp Supervisor of your cooking camp location as soon as possible.
- ECO Camp at Chimo packing list
Campers are asked to come with the following in a backpack to be prepared to enjoy the great outdoors:
- Comfortable light weight clothing suitable for being outdoors.
- Weather-appropriate clothing, including a rain jacket or sweater if needed.
- Closed toed shoes. No crocs or sandals please!
- Sunscreen – Please apply sunscreen before camp and send labelled sunscreen to be reapplied by your child during the day.
- Bug spray.
- Hat.
- Sunglasses.
- As we are an eco-friendly facility, we ask that you pack a litter less lunch and snacks. These must also be nut-free.
- Refillable water bottle.
- A change of clothes and socks inside a plastic bag.
- Any necessary medications such as puffers and EpiPens if required.
- Swim items on Tuesday and Thursday (see Swim/water play packing list section).
Please leave valuables like toys and electronics at home as it is easy to lose these onsite. We recommend labelling all items (i.e. backpack, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle).
- Rhythmic Gymnastics / Acrobatics / Cheer camp packing list
Campers are asked to wear fitted dance attire:
- Tights or shorts.
- Tank top or shirt.
- Hockey packing list
Campers must come with the following mandatory equipment in order to participate in hockey activities:
- CSA approved hockey helmet with cage/face mask.
- Hockey gloves.
- Hockey stick.
- Sharpened hockey skates.
- Labelled water bottle.
- Nut free snack.
Full hockey gear:
- Shoulder & Elbow Pads.
- Jock/Jill.
- Shin Pads.
- Hockey Socks.
- Hockey Pants.
- Neck guard.
- Music packing list
Campers are encouraged to bring their own instrument from home that they would like to play. Community centres will have a standard set of instruments to choose from for those who don’t have one of their own.
- Photography list
Campers must bring their own camera or phone with a camera to camp.
- Soccer packing list
Campers must come with the following mandatory equipment in order to participate in soccer activities:
- Shin pads.
- Running shoes or indoor/turf soccer shoes; Outdoor soccer cleats with metal studs are not permitted as this will damage the turf.
- Tennis packing list
Campers must come with the following mandatory equipment in order to participate in tennis activities:
- Tennis Racquet.
- Running shoes. No crocs please!
- Valuables
Campers should not bring valuables to camp. This includes cell phones, gaming devices, and cash.
City of Markham is not responsible for valuables or personal property that are lost, stolen or damaged.
- Camp Essentials
Prepare your child with the essentials for a fun and safe experience. This typically includes:
- Comfortable clothing suitable for indoor and outdoor activities.
- Running shoes. No crocs please!
- Nut-free snacks.
- Sunscreen.
- Hat.
- Refillable water bottle.
- A change of clothes.
- Any necessary medications such as puffers and EpiPens if required.
Label all of you child's items with their first and last name. Any unclaimed or unlabeled items will be sent to the camp's lost and found.
- Medications
Camp staff will hold prescription medication only as directed on the label. Complete the Dispensing of Medication Form [PDF] and submit it in-person on the first day of camp.
Campers will be required to administer the medication themselves.
- Anaphylaxis and EpiPens
If a camper has an allergy that requires an EpiPen, complete the EpiPen Consent Form [PDF] and Anaphylaxis Alert Form [PDF] and submit it in-person on the first day of camp.
Campers must have their EpiPen present at sign-in in order to be admitted to camp for the day. The camper is encouraged to carry an EpiPen in an easily identifiable waist pack. Campers must take their EpiPens home each day.

Joining a new camp can feel a bit scary for first-time campers. To help ease anxieties, consider visiting a local community center, library, or cultural venues. These places often offer a variety of programs and activities for children and can help ease their transition into camp.
