Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham

Track Map

The 2026 Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Markham will be held in Markham Centre, the city’s dynamic downtown core. Markham Centre is home to many Canadian corporate headquarters, the York University Markham campus, and the acclaimed Markham Pan Am Centre – a key venue during the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.  

The temporary track will be built in the eastern precinct of Markham’s downtown core, between Kennedy Road, Enterprise Boulevard, Unionville GO tracks and Highway 407.  

The thrilling temporary track design process has been led by renowned track designer Tony Cotman of NRC Consulting. The circuit features a 12-turn, 3.52-kilometer (2.19-mile) layout including a double-sided pit lane, thrilling straightaways and technically challenging sectors. The City of Markham has begun early works on the track and festival site in coordination with Metrolinx and other area partners.

Road Closures and Traffic Impacts

From July 19 to August 12, temporary partial lane closures and intermittent overnight road closures (9 PM to 6 AM) will take place to support track preparation. Construction timelines may shift based on weather conditions, but emergency services will have full access at all times during this period.

Full road closures will be in effect from August 12, 9 PM to August 18, 6 AM for race weekend operations.

Roads impacted include: Main St. Unionville (south of Hwy 7), Unionville Gate, South Unionville Ave., Enterprise Blvd., University Blvd., YMCA Blvd., Kennedy Rd. (south of Hwy 7 to south of Hwy 407), and the Hwy 407 interchange ramps.

Please avoid non-essential travel near the track area during the event and follow all posted road closure/detour signs and message boards.

Noise Warning

The IndyCar roar will be heard across Markham from August 14 to 16.  With exciting and high-performance racing comes sound! The community can expect noise-levels equivalent to that of a rock concert during August 14 to 16 between 9 AM to 6 PM.

Intermittent sound can include engine testing and support‑series activities. Ear protection is recommended for outdoor workers and sensitive individuals. Additionally, leading up to the race event there may be track preparation related noise.

Indy-related Construction Updates

In the weeks leading up to the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham, increased delivery and setup of event materials will occur, which is expected to significantly impact access to Unionville GO and the Unionville GO Station parking lot.  

Be sure to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Station and Parking Lot Impacts 

Construction continues at Unionville GO, in preparation for the Markham Indy.

Starting July 18, the delivery and setup of event materials will increase, which will significantly impact access to Unionville GO.

Here’s what you need to know:

• On July 18, approximately 200 parking spaces will be closed in the main parking lot.
• Any vehicles parked in this area when the work begins, will be towed to the south side of the parking lot. (See site map below)
• On July 19 and 20, the access road east of the station will be closed between 9:00 AM to 4 PM and 9 PM to 6 AM for the installation of cement barriers and fencing.
  • YMCA Boulevard will remain open for access to and from the parking lot and station.
• Between July 21 and Aug. 8, road ways surrounding Unionville GO will be temporarily reduced between 9 AM and 6 AM.
• To construct new walkways for the event, approximately 28 parking spaces are closed in the P3 parking lot and 100 spaces are closed in the P4 parking lot.
• Follow all directional signage and use caution when moving around construction areas.
• This work schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances and weather conditions.

Significant impacts will continue from Aug. 9 to Aug. 30. Updates will be provided when more information about future station impacts becomes available.

The City of Markham will be the host city for a period of 5 years starting in 2026. The City’s role is ensuring roads are suitable for racing.

Green Savoree Racing Promotions is the third-party operator of the race. From start to finish, Green Savoree organizes the race.

Who is Green Savoree Toronto ULC?

The event is owned and operated by Green Savoree Toronto ULC, a subsidiary of Green Savoree Racing Promotions (GSRP). GSRP is an Indianapolis-based motorsports event ownership and management company whose subsidiaries own, operate and promote race properties in Lexington, Ohio, home of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and The Mid-Ohio School, Portland, Ore., St. Petersburg, Fla. and Greater Toronto Area in Markham, Ontario. These events provide a festival experience and showcase some of the most exciting racing series in the world including the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

What is the NTT IndyCar Series? 

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES is North America’s premier open-wheel auto racing series. The thrilling race features the most versatile drivers from around the world who compete on superspeedways, short ovals, and street circuits. The series features stars from across the globe competing at speeds faster than 370 kilometers per hour (230 mph).

How many people can we expect to attend Indy in Markham? 

The Indy typically attracts 150,000 people over three days, with the largest crowd attending the final race on Sunday.  

Will roads be closed?

Yes. Streets that form part of the race circuit will be closed, including:

• Unionville Gate (Kennedy to Main Street Unionville)
• Enterprise Boulevard East (Main Street Unionville to west of the GO tracks)
• University Boulevard
• YMCA Boulevard
• Kennedy Road South (between Unionville Gate and YMCA Boulevard)

There will be traffic impacts, including lane restrictions and street closures to the roads forming the race circuit days before and after the race for preparation and clean-up. For the two weeks leading up to the race, you will see the set-up of infrastructure – road barriers and grandstands. This set-up will not necessitate road closures. The teardown begins Sunday evening, and it is much quicker than the set-up. The City will provide updates in advance to help you plan your commute. 

Preparations for Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham

In the weeks leading up to the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham, increased delivery and setup of event materials will occur, which is expected to significantly impact Markham Centre, access to Unionville GO and the Unionville GO Station parking lot. Additional information regarding anticipated traffic impacts will be shared prior to the start of track setup.

How loud will the race be? What is the City doing to minimize noise?

Like all motorsport events, there will be high-speed car sounds. To minimize disruption:

• Races are scheduled during the day across three days: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
• Race times will be communicated in advance by the event organizer.
• Noise levels vary depending on location:
  • Trackside/Grandstands: Comparable to an outdoor music concert. Intermittent noises.
  • Away from festival area: Sound fades significantly, though intermittent muffled noise may still be heard. 

Is the City of Markham financially supporting the event?

Yes. The City’s role is ensuring roads are suitable for racing. Key points:

• Event organizers will use the Markham Pan Am Centre.
• Organizers are responsible for all infrastructure setup and removal (grandstands, fencing, barriers).
• Organizers will pay the city for right-of-way occupancy and cover event-related costs.
• The City provides logistical support.

The City’s support of the event will be funded through the Municipal Accommodation Tax (Hotel Tax) and there will be no impact to property taxes.

Ontario Honda Dealers’ Free Fan Friday offers general admission courtesy of the Ontario Honda Dealers Association through a voluntary donation to Make-A-Wish Canada. Since 2010, the event has raised over $1 million for charity.

IndyCar has taken several steps toward sustainability, including:

• Using 100% renewable race fuel, made from second-generation sugarcane waste and other bio-based sources.
• Partnering with venues such as the Markham Pan Am Centre, which uses solar energy and district heating/cooling from Markham District Energy.
• Hosting the race in Markham Centre, where Markham District Energy currently serves over 7 million sq. ft. of buildings, with another 3 million sq. ft. under construction.
